El 13 de febrero Ismael Peña-López impartió una sesión sobre e-learning en cooperación internacional para el desarrollo. La presentación, con bibliografía complementaria, puedes visitarla en su blog. Se trataron tres temas fundamentales:
- El papel especial de la Universidad como actor en la cooperación al desarrollo.
- El papel de las TICS en la cooperación internacional.
- Las iniciativas de voluntariado virtual.
Ismael Peña describió el proceso de constitución de Campus for Peace de la UOC. Se trata de una oficina de cooperación universitaria al desarrollo centrada en actividades de e-learning y voluntariado virtual con organizaciones no gubernamentales. Las relaciones de colaboración horizontal y la gestión del capital intelectual de los estudiantes parecen piezas clave en el éxito del proyecto.
En la segunda parte de su presentación se centró en mostrar la existencia de una relación inversa entre coste de adquisición del conocimiento y el valor añadido del conocimiento. Prestó también especial atención al voluntariado en los contextos de aplicación de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación.

Cuidados socio-sanitarios de inmigrantes Febrero 12, 2009

El próximo 27 de febrero tendrá lugar una sesión sobre el rol de los cuidados socio-sanitarios y sus proveedores en la integración social de la población inmigrante. La sesión contará con la participación de David Ingleby y Sander Kramer. Tendrá lugar en la Sala de Grupos de 10.00 a 12.00. A continuación presentamos brevemente la sesión y los ponentes.
- David Ingleby, Health and social care for migrants.
In the last 50 years all European countries have experienced an increase in the numbers of immigrants. Providing good health and social care to migrants and their families is a major challenge. The study of migrant health is an interdisciplinary topic, involving both social and medical sciences. Over the last decade, there has been a dramatic rise in attention to this topic, which comprises two main issues: (1) the state of health of migrants, (2) the changes that are necessary in the way health care is given. This talk will briefly describe some of the themes that are being studied and will try to explain why this topic is so important to all who work in health and social care.
David Ingleby is Professor of Intercultural Psychology at Utrecht University. At the moment he is involved in international networks concerned with teaching and research on health and social care for migrants and ethnic minorities.
- Sander Kramer, Cultural competence – what is it.
The concept of cultural competence has been used to identify the specific knowledge, attitudes and skills that are needed to make a professional “culturally sensitive”. This talk will describe different ideas about this concept, drawing on research that studies refugees, migrants and their interactions with therapists.
Sander Kramer is a social worker and cross-cultural psychologist. Based at the Utrecht School of Governace at the University of Utrecht from 1995. Applied as researcher and course leader of the European Master Degree on migration, mental health and social care. This course has the Dutch title ‘Interculturalisatie’ which implies all sectors in public domain. Research areas are forced migration, refugees and asylum seekers and theirinteraction with service providers, including mental health care. He works one day a week in a mental health care service with families that were traumatized.
